UK clean energy company Enviromena has received planning permission to build a new 24.8 MWp solar farm in Somerset, England.
Enviromena’s Horsey Levels solar project will be located on a 90-acre site in Bridgwater and has been designed to feature 45,198 monocrystalline bifacial solar modules.
Once online, Horsey Levels will be capable of generating 28,286 MWh of clean electricity per annum, or the equivalent power demand for 9,750 average-sized homes in the UK.
The green light for Horsey Levels marks the second successful planning approval for Enviromena over the past year, and is one of several solar projects that the company has sold to Blackfinch Energy, part of Blackfinch Group.
“I am delighted that we have secured another planning permission in the UK for this highly bankable renewable project in Somerset and it follows in the wake of several other successful solar projects the Enviromena team has delivered in Europe in the last 12 months,” said Cabell Fisher, CEO of Enviromena.
Horsey Levels forms part of Enviromena’s diverse portfolio of clean energy assets, which includes 1 GW of solar and battery energy storage systems that are either in development and operation across the UK and Europe.
With consumers’ energy prices on the rise in the UK, increasing by 54% this year, Enviromena said the new solar project would reduce the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels and bolster domestic energy security, while displacing about 6,500 tonnes of carbon emissions yearly.
“Projects like this one will be critical to support the UK Government’s recent initiatives to implement more renewable solutions on the national grid and to bring down the cost of energy for industry and consumers alike,” Fisher added.
“We now look forward to harnessing this momentum and hope more of our PV projects will come through the planning system so we can continue to support the UK’s commitment to hit its renewable energy targets and to further Enviromena’s mission to help facilitate the transition to a world powered by clean energy by providing safe, affordable, and reliable clean energy solutions to its customers.”
Enviromena extends UK solar partnership with Blackfinch
Enviromena sold three solar PV developments in April to Blackfinch Energy, part of Blackfinch Group, under their existing partnership in the UK.
The transaction included the 17.88 MWp Kiln Fields, 24.18 MWp Horsey Levels, and 11.8 MWp Cruxton Farm solar projects in Hampshire, Somerset, and Dorset, respectively.
Together, the projects will comprise over 100,000 monocrystalline bifacial solar modules, with an expected production capacity of over 61 GWh per annum — enough to power approximately 21,100 averaged-sized UK homes.
The Three Maids Hill, Kiln Fields, Horsey Levels, and Cruxton Farm solar projects were sold to Blackfinch under Enviromena’s broad reaching partnership with the UK investment firm.
